The new Nissan X-Trail Nismo has debuted in Japan, looking like the smaller sibling to the full-size Patrol Nismo. While the powertrain has been left untouched, Nissan’s performance division has modified the X-Trail’s e-4ORCE AWD system and suspension to deliver a more spirited driving experience.
And you can’t ignore the design overhaul that the X-Trail Nismo has undergone. The Stealth Grey finish just elevates the X-Trail silhouette to give a meaner and more suave impression. Inside, the optional Recaro racing seats sound like a no-brainer, but it’ll bump up the total price to ¥5.962 million (around P2.3 million).

All this excitement raises one big question: Will the new X-Trail make its way to the Philippines? It would make a lot of sense. After all, the brand’s local lineup is missing a compact SUV to slide in between the midsize Terra and the subcompact Kicks. And remember, Nissan Philippines president Masao Tsutsumi has vowed to launch 10 to 12 new models over the next three years.

Let’s get into the X-Trail Nismo. As mentioned, the Yokohama-based performance division tinkered with the hybrid SUV’s suspension, giving it Kayaba Swing Valve shock absorbers to lessen body roll for a more comfortable ride. This is also the first Nissan vehicle to get those shock absorbers.

The e-4ORCE AWD system was also tuned for better line tracing through curves. The two new drive modes maximize these modifications, with Sport adjusting the system for responsiveness while Auto smooths acceleration at higher speeds. While this is probably not a track car, everyday driving should feel more engaging and immersive. The entire car then rides on new 20-inch Nismo wheels and special Michelin Pilot EV tires, which Nissan says complements all the modifications for a more engaging drive.
What Nismo did not change was the powertrain, as it still is the standard e-Power dual-motor hybrid system. The e-Power 1.5-liter turbo generator makes about 144hp and 250Nm of torque, while the front motor generates about 204hp and 330Nm, with the rear making 136hp and 195Nm.

In the cabin, red accents are scattered throughout high-touch surfaces, along with more Nismo branding. The seats and the rest of the cabin are mostly dressed in black upholstery, unless you opt for those red and black Recaro racing seats.
Excited for this? We know we are.
