After a long wait, Toyota Motor Philippines has finally launched the all-new Toyota Ativ. For the sake of those who have been out of the loop, it’s the Vios Hybrid that a lot of people have been talking about recently.
“The All-New Toyota Ativ is another statement of Toyota’s continued mission to bring electrified mobility within reach of more Filipinos,” shared Toyota Motor Philippines first vice president for vehicle sales operations Elijah Sue Marcial. “We know choosing your first car, and an electrified model at that, can be a bold decision, so the Ativ makes it simple and easy by delivering modern HEV features, while providing peace of mind with reliability, safety, ease of ownership, and joy of use.”

Exterior

The Ativ measures 4,425mm long, 1,740mm wide, and 1,480mm tall with a 2,620mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is listed at 160mm.
The all-new Ativ looks much like a modern Toyota now, with a wider grille and more aggressive-looking headlamps on the front fascia reminiscent of those of the Camry and Corolla Altis. It looks sportier than before, with more aerodynamic bits on the front and rear bumpers.
Interior

The inside is an upgrade from the old Vios. There’s still an abundance of hard plastics, but soft-touch materials, actual contrast stitching, and gloss-black panels now adorn the interior. There’s decent room for five average-sized Filipinos inside.
The layout here is similar to that of other Toyotas as well, with the blue push-to-start ignition by the A/C vents and controls, and a wireless charging pad on the cubby in front of the gearshift lever for the top-spec HEV trim. The new head unit—which we will discuss later—is mounted front and center on the dash.
Engine and specs

As mentioned previously, three engine options are available. First is the 1.3-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that puts out 97hp and 122Nm of torque at 4,200rpm. This can be mated to either a five-speed manual or a CVT. The second engine is the 1.5-liter nat-asp in-line-four petrol mill capable of 105hp at 6,000rpm that can only be had with a CVT.
Last, and definitely not the least, is the hybrid system which comprises a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery and is mated to a CVT. The electric motor puts out 79hp. With the gasoline engine, it’s capable of a total of 109hp.
Front disc brakes come as standard across the range, but only the HEV gets rear discs while everything else has rear drums. Wheel options vary across variants as well, as only the G gets 17-inch alloys while the rest of the roster sits on 16-inch wheels.
Extra features

Standard in the Ativ is a 9-inch infotainment system with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The HEV gets a slightly bigger 10.1-inch head unit with wireless smartphone mirroring. A reversing camera is also standard, but the top two G and HEV trims get a 360-degree-view monitor to help with parking duties.
Toyota Safety Sense is now also available in the Ativ. The suite includes a pre-collision system with autonomous emergency braking, automatic high beam, lane-tracing assist, lane-departure alert, and adaptive cruise control.
No power-adjustable seats here, but the steering wheel does get both tilt and telescopic adjustment. Cup holders are available on either side of both first and second rows. Exclusive to the top-of-the-line trim are the different drive modes, the electronic parking brake with auto-hold function,
