Toyota is in a bit of tight spot right now, but it hasn’t stopped the company from premiering a new model. In a surprise move, the Toyota Hilux gets yet another update.

For the new model year, the Hilux gets refreshed looks, more features (at least for Australia), and the availability of a mild hybrid powertrain.

At the front, the new Hilux gets a new bumper that takes cues from the range-topping GR-S model. It’s not exactly like the performance truck, but it’s significantly different from what’s sitting in showrooms right now. It also gets a redesigned grille with a honeycomb pattern, along with new headlight clusters.

For now, Toyota is only showing the front end of the facelifted truck. We did notice that the wheel design has been carried over, but we’re expecting a few tweaks at the back as well. Chassis and suspension tweaks could also be part of the 2024 update.

Also, there’s no interior photos at the time of writing. There could be a few trim changes here and there to keep things fresh. Another possibility is an updated instrument cluster, likely to include information about the truck’s battery status for the mild hybrid system.

Most variants of the Hilux get mild-hybrid power for the Australian market. Toyota has yet to mention power and torque stats, nor has it listed its total system output rating. However, the company says its system adds 16hp and 65Nm of torque. For reference, the current 2.8-liter engine puts out 221hp and 550Nm of torque.

Expect to see more details and specs down the line once it hits Australian showrooms soon. Given that the Australian-spec Hilux is made in Thailand, there’s a good chance that Southeast Asia could get the new look too.
