The Toyota Land Cruiser 70 is an SUV from an era where the term SUV wasn’t even made yet. The classic 4x4 has been in production for nearly 40 years, and there are no signs of it heading for retirement just yet.
More recently, the 70 Series made (another) comeback in its home market of Japan. It’s the five-door wagon model that’s sold over there, and the company expects to sell about 400 units of it every month over there. We’re sure Toyota will fill up those reservation books in no time.

Perhaps inevitably, the Japanese automaker is also introducing an extensive range of accessories for the 70 Series under its Modellista brand. But as this is a Land Cruiser, it was done with cooperation with one of the world’s largest off-road aftermarket brands, JAOS. Let’s dive right in to the upgrades, yes?

At the front, it gets a more aggressive bumper that integrates a pair of LED daytime running lights to go along with it. The thicker front bumpers can also have a pair of yellow foglights installed for added visibility.
To protect the underchassis, JAOS has made a skid plate not just for the front but also for the rear. The optional roof rack could also prove very useful for those heading into the wilderness. For those who want a unique set of wheels, they can specify the Modellista X-CLAW alloy wheels for their Land Cruiser. It’s finished in matte bronze and shod in Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires.

It’s not just the exterior that can be fitted with upgrades. Customers can also opt to add (faux) wood trim on the dash to spruce up the cabin. Also available are LED interior lights, a luggage tray, and a tote cushion. That one might come in handy when the going gets really rough.
Mechanically, it’s the same as any other Toyota Land Cruiser 70. For the Japanese market, the only engine choice is a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel that makes 201hp and 500Nm of torque. It comes with off-road goodies such as a purely mechanical four-wheel drive selector, hill-descent control, and locking differentials for the front and rear.
