At the 14th Henry Ford Awards the other night, Ford Philippines president (managing director) Kay Hart shared with TopGear.com.ph that the Ranger finished 2014 as the country's best-selling pickup, supplanting perennial pickup-segment king the Toyota Hilux.
According to Hart, the Ranger sold a total of 7,996 units last year, an improvement of some 70% from 2013. She added that the figure was "almost 800 units more" than that of the Ranger's nearest rival (which, again, is the Hilux).
Breaking down the numbers, Hart said that the Ranger sold 5,580 units of its 4x2 variants, and 2,416 units of its 4x4 versions. In contrast, the Hilux moved 5,093 4x2 units and 2,146 4x4 units, Hart revealed.
Let's see how the numbers in the pickup segment will be like this year, with several new models arriving in 2015 (Mitsubishi Strada, Nissan Navara and Toyota Hilux). It's a good time to be a pickup buyer.
