The Kia Sonet has become a bit of a standout in the subcompact-crossover segment, steadily becoming one of the Korean brand’s bestsellers and a strong overall performer in its class. Since its local debut two years ago, a community has formed around it through the Kia Sonet Pilipinas Club.

To celebrate its second anniversary, the Kia Sonet Pilipinas Club held a meet-up and convoy last June 28 in Tanay, Rizal in partnership with Kia Philippines, bringing together over 80 participants. This celebration also coincides with another milestone for the Sonet: it recently crossed the 10,000-unit sales mark, an impressive feat for a relatively new nameplate.

The attendees arrived in varying trim levels of the Sonet, spanning from the base LX to the top-of-the-line SX and the limited-run K-Style Edition. Besides variants, some owners also showcased how they customized their setups through accessories like aftermarket wheels and camping gear.

The drive up Tanay led the convoy of Sonets through varied surfaces, ranging from smooth asphalt to unpaved dirt. Sonet owners attributed their confidence with tackling the mixed road conditions to both the crossover’s generous 205mm of ground clearance as well as its compact overall dimensions.

Speaking on the second anniversary of the subcompact crossover owner’s club, Kia Philippines managing director Jay Lopez commented: “The rapid growth of the Kia Sonet Pilipinas Club over the past year is a phenomenal reflection of the vehicle’s sustained momentum in the market. This milestone is an achievement we share entirely with our proud owners.”

Club member Abby Sucalit also shared her positive experience as a member of the community: “Being part of this community has been a major highlight of my ownership experience, as members are always quick to answer any questions I have. The camaraderie creates a sense of belonging that truly makes you feel like part of a family.”

In a market that’s showing increasing preference towards electrified options, it’s impressive to see the ICE-only Sonet still carve a niche for itself. Looking ahead towards the rest of 2026, Kia Philippines has a slew of models lined up, including the return of the Sportage in the compact crossover segment as well as a new look for the Seltos—stay tuned as we keep an eye on this Korean brand’s momentum.
