There was a shift in power in the local automotive industry in 2025. The top 10 sales list was reshuffled and got a few new entries at that.
What hasn’t changed, however, is the dominance of the top two brands: the first being Toyota, and the second being Mitsubishi. It doesn’t come as a surprise, but there’s something worth noting with Mitsubishi Motors Philippines’ performance. Internally, there was also a big shift in power.

Last year, the Mirage G4 and Xpander were the top-performing Mitsubishis and were neck and neck at the top. This year, while they’re both still the top-selling Mitsus, the subcompact MPV has overtaken the famed sedan, and the margin between them has grown drastically.

Mitsubishi sold 86,808 units last year, 28,081 of which were Xpanders, reflecting year-on-year growth. In the same period, only 17,757 Mirage G4s were sold—a huge drop from more than 26,000 in 2024. Non-G4 Mirage units only accounted for 699 of the total, which doesn’t really bring up total Mirage sales all that much.
The L300 finished in third with 14,938 units sold, the Montero Sport in fourth with 10,886, and the Triton in fifth with 9,170. Now, while the grand total sales for MMPC slightly dropped in 2025, a very, very bright spot for the Japanese carmaker is the all-new Destinator.
Mitsubishi’s newest offering has proven to be a hit. It was officially launched on November 20, and just in its first month, it sold 339 units. In December, the total jumped to 1,013, bringing the 2025 tally to 1,352. It’ll be interesting to see how the Destinator performs in 2026, but the numbers suggest it’ll only continue to sell in the coming months.
Going back to the bigger picture, despite the changes across the board, it’s safe to say that Mitsubishi is still sitting comfortably in the second spot. Toyota Motor Philippines still won’t be dethroned, but BYD Cars Philippines—despite its boom—still has a ways to go before it catches up to Mitsubishi.
