Nissan has announced that it has sold its manufacturing plant in Rosslyn, South Africa, to Chinese carmaker Chery. The factory was established over 50 years ago, and primarily produced the Navara pickup for several African markets.
The Japanese carmaker also announced that most of the employees at the Rosslyn site were offered jobs with Chery. According to Nissan Africa president Jordi Vila, continuing to support the local automotive industry and its constituents was paramount in this transaction.

“Nissan has a long and proud history in South Africa and has been working to find the best solution for our people, our customers, and our partners,” said Vila. “This move also ensures that the Rosslyn site will continue contributing to the South African automotive sector.”

This comes as the latest action in the Re:Nissan recovery plan. Previous phases have seen the sale of the brand’s famed headquarters in Yokohama, Japan, and the closure of several other global facilities.
Ultimately, the plan aims to get the brand back to profitability within the next year or so. More consolidation efforts could take place, but Nissan has continued to develop new vehicles. At the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, the facelifted Z was unveiled, along with an updated render of the Aura Nismo concept. Meanwhile, the Patrol is still scheduled for a release in South Africa sometime this year.
