It was clear that 2023 was the real bounceback year for automotive manufacturers. The two prior were for recovery after the pandemic, while last year was about growth.

Don’t believe us? Take a look at Toyota Motor Corporation’s numbers. Toyota sales in 2023 reached a staggering 10,307,395 across the globe, good for a 7.7% year-on-year increase. For comparison, the brand’s global sales was only at 9,567,184 in 2022.

Toyota also shared that 2023 saw the first year-on-year increase in two years, as numbers dipped a bit from 2021 to 2022. The brand also had 11 consecutive months with YOY sales increases.

For its other brand Daihatsu, there was also some slight groth. There were 790,441 Daihatsus sold worldwide last year, good for a 3.2% year-on-year increase. As for Hino, however, sales dipped by quite a bit, as sales were down 9.8% year-on-year to just 135,203.

Overall, however, the Toyota group still saw a 7.2% year-on-year sales increase—another first in two years—as total sales across all brands were up to 11,233,039. Of this total, 2,304,809 were sold in Japan, and the remaining 8,928,230 were sold outside it.

With all the momentum it has right now, will it be the same story for Toyota in 2024? If it’ll be able to get out of this whole crisis relatively unscathed, then it might be.
