Here’s something we can all look forward to at this year’s Shanghai Motor Show: Toyota has announced that it will preview its new battery-electric SUV at the upcoming show.
Not many details were provided as of this writing, but Toyota did confirm that the new model will be based on Toyota’s new e-TNGA electric vehicle platform. The versatility of the platform allows the Japanese carmaker to build vehicles of different sizes. In addition, the e-TNGA platform can also accommodate front, rear, or all-wheel-drive layouts as well as various battery and electric motor configurations.
The company’s statement reads, “This versatility and flexibility enable Toyota to design and build vehicles that not only use battery-electric technology, but are also exciting to drive and stylish in appearance.”
Now, you may recall that Toyota also mentioned a while back that it will be launching a prototype of its revolutionary solid-state batteries some time this year. Whether or not this will make an appearance alongside the new EV, however, is still a mystery as of now. One thing’s for sure: To see the prototype during the motor show will be quite a treat.
The Shanghai Motor Show is happening from April 21 to 28. Are you excited to see this new EV from Toyota?
