It’s been a very long time coming, but we’ve now gotten some significant updates regarding the LRT-1 Cavite Extension.

The test run was conducted to check the compatibility and assess the interface between vital components of the train system. Second-generation light rail vehicles (LRVs) were used for the test with a running speed of just 4.5kpfor safety reasons. LRMC shares more test runs using other train generations are planned in the coming weeks.

“It was a proud moment for us to see our train running along the extension line of LRT-1 from Redemptorist Station to Dr. Santos Station,” said LRMC president and CEO Juan Alfonso. “As we near the completion of this much-awaited railway project, the general public will begin to see more trains undergoing test runs and trial runs. These activities serve as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the LRMC team, our contractors, and partners in making the LRT-1 Cavite Extension a reality.”

Once it finally opens, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension is expected to increase the rail line’s daily capacity from 500,000 passengers to a total of 800,000. It is expected to reduce travel time between Baclaran in Manila and Bacoor in Cavite to just 25min. You can check out more photos from the test run below.
