The country’s Land Transportation Office (LTO) doesn’t joke around when it comes to issuing driver's licenses.

In a Facebook post, the agency said it has shut down and fined a driving school P80,000 for violating Article IX of Memorandum Circular No. VDM 2023-2460, also known as the revised Omnibus Guidelines on the Accreditation, Supervision, and Control of Driving Institutions, and the Standardization of Driver and Conductor’s Education.

Uh, let’s pull out our motoring dictionary for a second here. Translation? The erring driving school allegedly issued theoretical driving course certificates of completion to no-show license applicants.

“The issuance of certifications without proper attendance and completion of required courses undermines the integrity of the agency and poses a significant risk to public safety,” a Facebook post by the LTO regarding the incident reads.

“Consequently, such practices are strictly prohibited and strongly discouraged,” the agency added, warning other driving schools to strictly adhere to established LTO driver’s education guidelines.

Frankly, we don’t understand why potential driver’s license applicants bother to skip the theoretical driving course. It’s honestly a piece of cake. Do you agree with how the LTO is laying down the hammer here? Let us know in the comments.
