Some of you, like us, may have been out of the loop these days. But in case we all missed it, it appears one of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) traffic enforcers went viral on social media recently.

The enforcer was allegedly engaging in some unscrupulous activity with a motorist, where the latter was asked to surrender his driver’s license and asked to pay P15,000 to avoid having his vehicle impounded. That fee was lowered to P5,000, then eventually to P2,400. Weird how fees get adjusted just like that, huh?

The motorist sent the money via a mobile wallet app, then he posted the incident on social media. The day after, the money was sent back to him and he received a call and was asked to take the post down. He didn’t, and now it’s made the rounds on the Internet.

The MMDA is now conducting an investigation on the matter and has since relieved the identified officer of his duties in the meantime. The officer, however, reportedly denied the accusations. The enforcer will now be required to report temporarily to the MMDA’s head office in Pasig City while the investigation is ongoing. Once we receive further updates, we’ll keep you posted.

The agency is now encouraging the public to report illegal activities such as this through the MMDA’s social media platforms and the official hotline 136. The next time you encounter a similar scenario, keep this in mind. Drive safe out there, folks.
