Vintage (and legit) JDM legends aren’t exactly that hard to come by. That said, it’s always a good day when we find one of these, like this 1993 Toyota Supra RZ that’s up for bids on BringATrailer.com.
That’s a real JDM gem, alright. You’re looking at a near-30-year-old Supra that was just shipped to the US in early 2021. It’s got 129,000km on the odo, and as of this writing, the bid is at $30,250—that’s about P1.4 million. Is that a steal? You tell us.
For a million and a half, you get what seems to be a bone-stock Supra with a pristine-looking 2JZ-GTE powertrain under its hood—but more on that later. The exterior paint was already refinished in Japan, but pretty much everything else here has been kept original.
It sits on five-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels with Toyota covers and shod in Copper Zeon RS3-G1 tires. Inside, there are two-tone black and gray fabric seats, a three-spoke Supra steering wheel, and all the original buttons and gauges. An aftermarket upgrade you can find here is the Pioneer Carrozzeria 2-DIN stereo, which is also from Japan, in case you were wondering.
Now, circling back to the powertrain under the hood. This Supra is powered by the legendary 2JZ, a 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six mill that’s originally rated at 280hp and 431Nm of torque.
This beast of an engine delivers power to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox and a Torsen limited-slip diff.
Taking a peek at the underpinnings of this Supra, you’ll clearly see its age. That said, it still looks pretty clean overall, and the important part is it runs properly. Its clutch assembly, camshaft position sensor, spark plugs, battery, and even engine oil have just been replaced. The timing belt was also already replaced under previous ownership.
