Carmakers turning famed nameplates into crossover badges isn’t new. We’ve seen Toyota do it with the Corolla Cross, and Ford with the Mustang Mach-E. We all know the latter raised a lot of eyebrows.
Mitsubishi did the same with the Eclipse Cross. The original Eclipse was that sleek, sporty coupe. While it isn’t as popular as some cult-classic JDM legends, it still turns a lot of heads to this day. Partly because of its rarity, but also partly because of that classic ’90s look that we’ve all come to love. Let’s just say that Mitsubishi reviving the Eclipse badge and using it in an electric crossover just didn’t sit well with a lot of people.

Enoch Gabriel Gonzales, we assume, is one of those. He’s a digital artist who created the same next-gen Pajero and Lancer renders a while back. If you’re a Mitsubishi fan and you liked those, then have a gander at the images here—these are design concepts of an all-new Eclipse, but in sedan form.

“This design concept is heavily inspired by the second-generation Eclipse, which is evident from almost every angle,” Gonzales shared. “At the front, it features horizontal headlights ‘eclipsed’ by a notch that directs airflow to the functional air curtains on the bumper. It also carries the iconic engine bump on the clamshell hood. From the side, the concept highlights the classic Eclipse silhouette but with a longer hood and rear-wheel-drive coupe proportions, giving it a sportier yet more elegant look.”

“At the rear, it showcases a single-piece light module, with graphics resembling moon phases during an eclipse, and an illuminated three-diamond badge at the center,” he added. “The Eclipse emblem is also molded into the bumper, a homage to the third-generation model.”
We were told that this two-seater concept shares its platform and powertrain with the all-new Nissan Z, and we like that idea very much. This beautiful sedan with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 pushing out 400hp? Yes please. Gonzales, however, specified that it’ll have an AWD layout, not RWD.
Frankly, we’re just excited at the thought of having a new Eclipse, in coupe form, with a punchy engine, and looking like this. One can dream. Anyway, scroll further below so you can drool at more photos of this concept.
