You would think that if the head honcho of Toyota Motor Corporation were to go to the Philippines, he’d try out something automotive or mobility-related the moment he gets here. A train ride, or heck, a jeepney ride—just like most foreign celebrities—would be more appropriate.
Akio Toyoda, however, had other priorities. The chairman himself was actually in the country for a few days to join Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) 35th-anniversary celebration. While he was giving his remarks, Toyoda shared a few photos of him eating at Jollibee.

Forget cars and other automobiles—this is where it’s at. We’re not sure if this was his first time trying out the famous Filipino fast-food chain since we didn’t get the chance to chat with him about it. Regardless, though, we reckon he got himself some Chickenjoy. That, or the Jollibee experience wouldn’t have been complete.

Now, eating some local fried chicken wasn’t all that Toyoda was scheduled to do during his recent visit. He was the one who confirmed TMP’s future plans, specifically with the next-generation Tamaraw.

Toyoda also joined the 2023 Toyota Gazoo Racing Festival and showed everyone who Morizo really is. In case you didn’t know, that’s the nickname Toyoda uses whenever he’s behind the wheel, be it racing on a track or doing donuts in a parking lot. We got to see the latter, and our editor-in-chief was lucky enough to get the chance to ride shotgun with Morizo.
It’s not often that the leader of the world’s best-selling automotive brand pays our country a visit, let alone goes out of his way to try our food. If you were to recommend a new food-trip destination to Toyoda for his next visit, where would it be?
