Do you know what most car commercials lack these days? That’s right—good old manga-style racing with explosions, giant magma monsters, hot flying rocks, and background hype music. Luckily, Honda Thailand knows how to keep it simple.

This is the company’s promotional video for the 2027 City and City Hatchback. The animation is based on another music video on Honda Thailand’s YouTube page featuring Thai singer and rapper Milli and her song titled ‘City Quake.’

To start, Honda’s idea of a ‘car launch’ is to send the vehicle flying from inside an active volcano. After, we see the car and its driver Milli rushing down the mountain road while evading hot magma and flying rocks as the City switches between sedan and hatchback form.

There are some cool features included in the video, too. In one instance, the giant magma monster mistakenly swipes the ground, creating a cloud of dust while rocks hurl toward the road. Milli then uses the car’s Honda Sensing technology to navigate the chaos with no problem.

The drifting action might be a stretch considering the City’s front-wheel-drive setup (not that any of the other scenes were based on real-world physics to begin with), but it can be forgiven because, admittedly, it looks cool.

Honda says, “The campaign follows a journey of pushing through obstacles in a world filled with chaos, overcoming every challenge to embark on a mission of discovering new paths and driving toward a new world with the Honda City.”

We wish more car companies would create campaigns like this—not necessarily with volcanic eruptions and giant monsters, but something more playful and not so...the usual. If you want to check out the full video, click on the play button below.
