Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles have undoubtedly been gaining momentum in the Philippines. In the first half of 2026, 5,531 examples were sold, whereas in 2025, only 160 units were shifted in the same time frame.
One of the leaders in this ongoing trend is the Jetour T1 Lightning i-DM. This specific plug-in hybrid model has helped Jetour become the top seller of PHEVs in the Philippines, against a mountain of competition from other Chinese brands and heritage marques.
More recently, Mitsubishi has revived the Outlander nameplate, along with its 2.4-liter plug-in hybrid powertrain. While it is still an emerging segment, there is definitely strong interest, and we can’t help but think that a few more options could push the needle even further.

1) Toyota RAV4 PHEV
Is there a more appropriate place to start? The Toyota RAV4 PHEV has piqued our interest since we saw it at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. Not only is it the most powerful production RAV4 to date, but it is impressively efficient as well. With around 87km of fully electric driving, this electrified RAV4 also has 324hp to boot.
Moreover, Toyota even deemed this plug-in hybrid crossover worthy of Gazoo Racing styling. In fact, it is the only member of the fifth-generation RAV4 to receive this special kit.
2) Lexus NX450h+
If the RAV4 comes across as a little too rugged, then the plug-in hybrid NX should satisfy those looking for a classier crossover. It also packs a more conservative inline-four, with about 304hp combined and 60km of fully electric driving.
Oh, and if you still want some sporty styling, it also comes in an F Sport variant. The best of both worlds, don’t you think?
3) BYD Ti 7
If you’ve been eyeing a brand-new Denza, but think the pricing is a tad too steep, then you may want to hold out for the incoming BYD Ti 7. It has been confirmed for a Philippine release, and staff writer Lije Martin got to experience its potential as an overlanding companion in China.
He pointed out that its 735km of combined driving range has some promise, and its 483hp and 620Nm of torque aren’t figures to mess around with. We’ll be keeping an eye out for this one.
4) Ford Bronco Basecamp
Based on how popular the Territory has been, perhaps China-built Fords aren’t as divisive as they appear. Enter the Bronco Basecamp, a range-extended spin on the popular 4x4 SUV.
While its origins may raise some eyebrows, it has the numbers to back it up. Ford advertises that it can drive up to 220km on just the battery, with 1,200km in combined range. That, along with dual motors and a fully decked-out cabin, should make for an intriguing addition to the local lineup.
5) Mazda CX-80 PHEV AWD
After launching the updated CX-60 and the all-new CX-5, the plug-in hybrid CX-80 could round out Mazda’s crossover offer sheet very nicely. Off the bat, it offers an alternative powertrain with plug-in hybrid power and a much larger form factor at almost five meters long.
And to make things a little more interesting, it has even appeared on the Department of Energy’s list of recognized electric vehicles. While a Philippine release has yet to be confirmed, we can expect this sooner rather than later.
6) Volvo XC60 Long-range Plug-in hybrid
The plug-in hybrid XC60 is one of the most impressive cars we’ve driven so far in 2026—just check out managing editor Leandre Grecia’s review.
However, over in Sweden, the crossover has just been improved with more range. Specifically, Volvo now claims that the XC60 can drive up to 200km on electricity and 1,200km when working with the engine. These figures rival Chinese offerings (just revisit the Bronco Basecamp up above), while still delivering an uncompromising Volvo experience. Premium materials, Bowers & Wilkins sound system, top-notch safety—the works.
