The Top Gear Philippines team has gone to all sorts of automotive events and motor shows the world over, but perhaps one of our most recent expos was a first for our team: Asiabike Jakarta 2025.
ABJ is organized by Messe Frankfurt, the same entity responsible for Eurobike—one of the biggest gatherings on that side of the globe for any and all bicycles. ABJ focuses on sustainable mobility as well, but the spotlight is not on bicycles but on electrified two-, three-, and even four-wheelers.

Indonesia has proven to be a strong market for these electrified mobility solutions, be it for commuting, leisure, or business purposes. ABJ highlights the latest offerings in the region, serving as a preview of what we could be seeing in our market in the future.

The show this year was dominated by Chinese brands, with a sprinkle of Indonesian e-bike brands and manufacturers here and there. But what’s really interesting about ABJ is that it’s an avenue not just for customers to look at the newest models but also for potential investors that are looking to start their own e-bike brands.
See, it wasn’t just the actual models exhibited at the show. ABJ also had the likes of e-bike batteries, electric motors, and even swappable battery stations on display. Various manufacturers had booths where their latest technologies were also showcased. On top of that, there was also a dedicated ‘business matching’ section where exhibitors and event-goers can discuss potential future ventures.
ABJ was also held alongside the Periklindo Electric Vehicle Show, so the entire venue was also shared with various electric four-wheelers and heck, even an electric helicopter. Overall, it was a good peek at what else the region has in store, and it also shows us the potential of the industry in general. Who knows, maybe one day, some of the technologies we saw at ABJ would eventually make it to the Philippines?
