The rumors were true, after all

Triumph first dipped its toes in the entry-level big-bike segment with the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X last year. It appears it has worked for the British motorcycle brand, as it has now introduced yet another less-expensive, more attainable model: the Thruxton 400.

Earlier this year, rumors about the Thruxton 400 first surfaced online, and now it’s here. Or at least in India, where it just made its debut. Like the Speed and Scrambler models, the Thruxton is derived from a bigger Triumph motorcycle, and it’s where this new bike gets its classy looks.

Like the original (and now discontinued) Thruxton, the 400 has this retro, cafe-racer design. There’s a cowl enclosing the round headlight up front, a fuel tank that slims down towards the saddle, and a rear seat cowl. It very much looks like a Triumph bike, especially with the covers and plates on the engine and the badges on the sides. Bar-end side mirrors that come as an added option complete the look.

The Thruxton 400 is also unsurprisingly powered by a TR-Series engine similar to what you get in the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. This 398cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder powertrain puts out 41hp at 9,000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Horsepower is slightly up, and peak output is achieved at slightly higher revs compared to the Speed and Scrambler.

The all-new Thruxton 400 weighs in at 183kg and has a seat height of 795mm, or 31.2 inches. It also has a 13-liter fuel tank. Other standard equipment include the LCD instrument cluster, rearset footpegs, the Monza-style fuel cap, and a USB-C charging port. The bike also comes with assist/slipper clutch, ride-by-wire throttle, and switchable traction control.

No word yet on whether or not Triumph plans to bring the Thruxton 400 here. For now, let’s keep our fingers crossed that if and when the new bike arrives here, it’ll come with a reasonable price tag, too, just like its entry-level siblings.
