Remember the Ford Fiesta? It seems like just yesterday it was still available in the Philippines. Ford eventually ditched it locally to focus on all things truck and SUV, but yeah, it was a thing here not too long ago.

Those of you who did consider the vehicle back then probably remember it as a city-friendly runabout. What others have done with the vehicle proves it can be so much more, though. All it takes to bring out true potential is someone with the means and will to wring out a car’s full capability.

Take the Ford Fiesta Rally3 for example. As the name implies, it’s a rally-oriented hatch. In fact, Ford Performance recently just announced the vehicle has been officially homologated as a competition car and is now in compliance with Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) technical regulations.

Developed by M-Sport, the Fiesta Rally3 packs a host of upgrades that make kicking up dirt and snow in this thing a viable proposition. There’s the engine: A 1.5-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost that does 215hp and 400Nm of torque mated to a five-speed sequential gearbox. Underneath, the vehicle runs on a new suspension setup with three-way adjustable dampers, with stopping duties handled by AP Racing ventilated discs. All that is on top of a stealthy, black, Rally-ready exterior, by the way.

“I cannot thank the team enough for everything they have done against all of the difficulty we have faced, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic hit,” M-Sport Poland director Maciej Woda said in a statement commemorating the Fiesta Rally3’s homologation.

“Fundamentally it is competition that motivates us and we want to see a thrilling fight on the stages in the Rally3 category. It’s because of this competitive spirit that our Fiesta Rally3 car is ready to go today, to push our experience and learn even more to support our customers and drivers.”
