The current Ford Ranger has been available on our market for almost a decade. That might seem like a long time, but that’s par for the course for this segment. Toyota also uses its IMV platforms for about 10 years before releasing a new generation.
Since its introduction, the Ranger has enjoyed brisk sales. It has also invigorated the aftermarket segment, with owners modifying their Ford pickups enthusiastically (although sometimes, you wish they had just left it alone). Time hasn’t dampened demand for this popular truck, and that’s mainly because the design is so clean and handsome.
So, when Ford Philippines introduced a facelifted Ranger this week, it didn’t have to do much. A few color accents here and there, some shiny bits in various areas. And it worked. Ranger owners who’ve just purchases a unit won’t get angry at their dealers because the updated model looks mostly the same. But the minor improvements bestow upon the 2021 Ranger a tasteful pop of color and style that also give it an aesthetic boost.
Here’s what’s new with the Ford Ranger Wildtrak in 2021:
- Saber accents (that orange highlight) on the trapezoidal grille
- Painted gloss-black wheels
- Gloss-black accents on front grille, the lower bumper, the rear bumper, the foglamp bezels, the exterior mirrors, and the fender grille
- Saber accent on the sports bar
- New Wildtrak decals on the side doors
- 3D Wildtrak decal on the tailgate
Nothing was mentioned about cabin improvements, although the orange ‘Saber’ accents do match the stitching and piping in the cabin. There’s nothing new with the powertrain, either, so it’s the same 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It’s still great to drive, so no complaints there.
This particular example is the Ranger 2.0L BiTurbo Wildtrak AT, and it retails for P1,728,000.
