The Hyundai Stargazer has left quite the impression on us, being our four-way Big Test winner a few years ago. It impressed us with its comfort, performance, space, and practicality, among other things. The MPV has also become a hit with local buyers, too, and is one of Hyundai Philippines’ best-sellers.

Now, the heavily updated model has arrived just a few months after its world premiere in Indonesia. Not only does it have a new front and rear end design, but there are also more features, and the cabin was also given a refresh.

Hyundai has made a few changes to the variants of the Stargazer. A manual transmission variant is no longer offered, and all shift with Hyundai’s version of CVT dubbed IVT. With that, the range kicks off with the GL Plus, followed by the GLS. There are now also two Stargazer X variants called GLS Plus and Premium.

Both the Stargazer and Stargazer X get a more SUV-like appearance with a longer hood and a more upright nose, taking some cues from the Palisade. Headlights and taillights have also been redesigned, although the midsection of the MPV is largely carried over from before. Also new are the wheels, the tailgate, and sharper-looking bumpers with the Stargazer X getting a more rugged appearance.

Inside, the dashboard has been redesigned and incorporates a new layout for the digital instrument panel, infotainment system, and center stack. The Stargazer X gets a new design for its digital screens, and it also gains automatic climate control plus an electronic parking brake.

Hyundai claims best-in-class space for the Stargazer. Its wheelbase of 2,780mm is among the longest in its segment. Passengers care then coddled in leather-cloth combination seats in the Stargazer X, while the standard Stargazer sticks with cloth. As expected, there’s three-row seating in there.

Standard in the Stargazer X is Hyundai Smartsense. The advanced driver assist system gets an upgrade, adding a stop-and-go function for the adaptive cruise control, along with autonomous emergency braking. Traction control, stability control, and a reverse camera are standard in all variants, and only the Stargazer X gets the advanced driver assists and six airbags. The regular Stargazers stick to dual airbags.

Under the hood is the familiar 1.5-liter engine that also powers the outgoing model. The Smartstream G mill makes 113hp and 141Nm and, as mentioned, the only transmission pairing is an IVT.
