Here’s a treat for off-road nuts looking for a viable ride to haul their entire clan in: There’s a company in Australia now offering 4x4 conversion kits for the 2020 Toyota Hiace.

Bus 4x4’s Hiace conversion kit effectively transforms the popular Japanese people-mover into a go-anywhere van. Upgrades include modified front and rear suspension, a 180mm lift kit for increased ground clearance, an electronic central and rear differential locker, all-terrain tires, and full-time high- and low-range 4x4.

You can also go for additional bits like rock sliders and protection rails if you want to protect your ride during all the off-road nonsense you plan to put it through. If you’d really like to go all-out on the conversion, you can turn the Hiace into a legitimate ‘mining-spec’ van via options like a roll cage, a tow bar, a bull bar, a snorkel, and a roof-mounted lighting system.

The best part? Bus 4x4 says its conversion kit is available for the entire Hiace range, from the 12-seat commuter variant to the premium Granvia (the Super Grandia is called this Down Under). No mention of any changes to the van’s 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV DOHC or 3.5-liter 7GR-FKS (Australian market only) engines.

So, how much? According to the Bus 4x4 website, the Toyota Hiace Commuter with its base 4x4 conversion kit carries a price tag of AUD 114,285 (around P3.9 million).

Is the capability to bring the entire barangay off-road worth that much to you?
