Just two weeks after the BYD Racco officially launched in Japan, the non-Japanese kei car has already received more than 1,000 orders. More than 800 of those sales were for the 300 Premium, the top-of-the-line variant priced at ¥2,497,000 (around P938,000).
The Racco 300 Premium and 300 Plus variants are almost identical. They both have a permanent-magnet synchronous motor mated to a 35.84kWh battery, with driving range listed at around 320km. The 300 Premium costs JPY99,000 (P38,002) more than the 300 Plus, and gets a heated cup holder, a rear-center armrest, synthetic-leather seats, a 360-degree camera, and foot-sensor automatic sliding doors.
Meanwhile, the Racco 200 variant gets a smaller 22.40kWh battery and a driving range of 210km. This is the most affordable of the three variants, priced at JPY2,145,000 (around P806,000). It still gets most of the features found in the 300 Plus and 300 Premium, including adaptive and intelligent cruise control, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking.

All variants come standard with a 10-inch touchscreen display equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s keyless entry as well, although the 300 Plus and 300 Premium also offer NFC key functionality through your smartphone. As for the dimensions, the Racco measures 3,395mm long, 1,475mm wide, and 1,800mm tall, with a 2,520mm wheelbase, classifying it as a proper kei car.
In Japan, the Racco goes up against the Nissan Sakura, Honda N-One e:, and Mitsubishi eK X EV. Since we don’t have much luck getting kei cars from Japan, would you consider this if BYD were to bring it here?
