Just a few months ago, the Ford Everest Wildtrak quietly disappeared from the brand’s website, signaling its possible discontinuation in the Philippine market. It struck us as an odd choice, given it had been available for just over half a year at that point.

We speculated that it could be to make way for a replacement, especially since we learned about the possible addition of the Everest Platinum to the local lineup. But it looks like that might not be the case after all—a new Everest Wildtrak has turned up among the LTO’s homologation papers.

Interestingly, the returning Wildtrak’s full name in the filing is the ‘Everest Wildtrak 2.0L Turbo 4x4 10AT.’ The tech specs back it up: It’s using the milder single-turbo 2.0-liter diesel mill that’s found on the Everest’s 4x2 models, which makes 168hp and 405Nm of torque.

But this engine is also getting mated to a 4x4 drivetrain and 10-speed automatic gearbox, as suggested by the filing name. As a result, it’s a bit of an in-between of the previously offered Everest Wildtrak models. It should be noted that this is also the sole variant that’s surfaced as of writing.

This means that Ford Philippines could be going forward with just this intermediate spec, foregoing the more powerful bi-turbo 2.0-liter diesel engine and reserving the 3.0-liter turbo V6 for the Platinum. Of course, none of this is confirmed as of now. We’ll have to wait and see how the Blue Oval handles this as well as its Ranger Wildtrak updates.

Your thoughts, though? What do you think of the Everest Wildtrak’s possible comeback, albeit with a bit less punch? Chime in through the comments.
