The traditional full-sized luxury sedan market isn’t what it once was. Back then, it was practically the default choice for presidents and plutocrats, but these days, they’re fast becoming an endangered species. That brings us neatly to the Lexus LS.

Once upon a time, it gave the luxury establishment a fright. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series were under fire, and the so too was the Jaguar XJ and the traditional American luxury marques. It was a revolutionary product that told the world that Japan doesn’t just make reasonably priced cars well.

Fast forward to today and LS sales have taken a nosedive. The money now is in luxury SUVs and vans. With that, the writing was on the wall for the big Lexus sedan as it will be discontinued in most markets by the end of 2026.

But the Lexus LS story won’t end there. As it turns out, parent company Toyota has big plans for it and totally change the course of the storied nameplate. It won’t just be a redesign, it will be a redirection.

Lexus LS van concept

Lexus has teased a concept of the future LS, and it looks nothing like all the models before it. It won’t even be a sedan anymore, as it appears that the model will be tuned into an ultra-luxury van. It’s a concept for now, but given the way the luxury car market is moving right now, it might just become reality.

There weren’t any specifics given, and unlike the Corolla concept teaser, it’s difficult to make out any design details. All we know is, it’ll be a Lexus LM-shaped vehicle with luxuries cranked up to 11. That said, we doubt the six-wheeler arrangement will make it to production.

The question now is if it will be a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or a full electric vehicle. Either way, we’ll know more once we see it in the metal at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2025.
