A new Lexus LX has silently rolled in the Philippine market, literally and figuratively. That’s because the hybrid version of the flagship SUV, the LX700h, has now made its way to the country. But there’s another bit of news that this electrified model brings.
Starting this year, The LX can now be specified with a hybrid powertrain. Of course, the LX600 with its 3.5-liter (that’s actually a 3.4-liter) twin-turbo V6 will still soldier on. But for those who’d like more power, torque, and efficienct, the LX700h is the way to go.

Okay, the LX700h still uses the same engine found in the LX600, but its boosted V6 is mated to a single electric motor that gives this 2.7-ton land yacht a fair bit of pep. The result is a combined output of 457hp and 790Nm of torque, significantly up from 409hp and 650Nm. The LX wasn’t what we’d call underpowered, but any boost is (more than) welcome.

It's worth pointing out that this SUV has a full hybrid system, so it benefits from perks provided by the EVIDA law such as number coding exemptions. As it’s an LX, there’s heaps of leather, wood, and other rich-feeling materials, an advanced infotainment system, slick four-wheel drive modes, air suspension, and more.

The local-market Lexus LX is available in three variants. These are the Premier, the F-Sport, and the VIP. The Premier serves as the entry-level model, but it’s safe to say that it’s far from basic. This is the flagship SUV of the brand, after all. As the name implies, F-Sport adds, er, sportier bits inside and out, but the VIP is a totally new trim level.
If you’re thinking about carrying more than four people on board the LX700h VIP, you can forget about it. The third row is deleted, while the second-row bench is replaced by captain’s chairs. It’s strictly a four-seater with the rear perches equipped with massagers and climate control. Also included is a rear entertainment system so one can get the business class experience on land.
