Mini Philippines is quickly expanding its electric range. Following the launch of the fully-electric Cooper and Countryman in September last year, local distributor Autohub has now brought in the new subcompact EV crossover that sits between the two models: the Mini Aceman.

Only one variant, the Mini Aceman SE, is available on the local market, priced at P3,550,000. This is the higher spec compared with the Aceman E, and is powered by a single electric motor that generates 215hp (160kW) and 330Nm of torque. That’s good enough for a 0-100kph time of 7.1sec and a top speed of 170kph.

Charge is supplied by a 54.2kWh battery that promises a range of up to 407km. That said, during our first drive of the Aceman in October, we found that the actual range could veer off the claimed figure depending on your driving style and selected mode.

The local Aceman gets seven of these Experience Modes, namely: Core, Go-Kart, Green, Vivid, Timeless, Balance, and Personal. Go-Kart mode provides the point-and-squirt character that Minis are traditionally known for, with keen steering and rapid throttle response. This and the in-cabin audiovisual experience are pretty much the only things that each mode can alter since the car isn’t equipped with adaptive suspension.

When the battery runs out of juice, the Aceman may be topped up via AC charging up to a rate of 11kW, or DC fast charging up to a rate of 95kW. The latter allows the battery to be recharged from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes. For convenience, you can use the Mini App to check the battery status.

Another defining trait of Minis is fun, quirky design inside and out, and in this regard, the Aceman lives up to expectations. Based on the idea of ‘Charismatic Simplicity,’ the basic architecture of the dashboard is simple, but the styling is definitely playful and eye-catching, with the circular 240mm OLED display being the literal centerpiece. It runs on Mini OS 9, and provides easy access to menu items thanks to a logical layout and quick, seamless response to either touch input or voice command.

Meanwhile, the toggle bar just below the screen houses a combination of buttons, toggles, and dials for the most accessed controls: ignition, gear selector, parking brake, volume knob, and Experience Modes. The console underneath boasts USB-C ports and a wireless charger for gadgets. Sporty perforated vescin covers the seats, while the dash and the inside door panels are wrapped in 2D-knit fabric. Depending on the chosen Experience Mode, projectors hidden on either side of the circular beam illuminated graphics on the dashboard. Other elements are finished in Vibrant Silver for a touch of elegance.

Outside, the familiar Mini shape wears modern versions of the brand’s classic design cues. The octagonal outline up front evokes the traditional grille even if, technically, the Aceman doesn’t have a grille. There are three lighting signatures for the angular headlamps and the upright taillights. Measuring 4,079mm long, 1,754mm wide, and 1,514mm tall, the Aceman is closer in size to the J01 electric Cooper, looking like a raised and slightly stretched version of the hatchback. Those two-tone Hexagram Spoke wheels are a massive 19 inches, and to emphasize that this is a crossover, the car gets underride protection front and rear in Vibrant Silver. Chunky black wheel-arch trim and lower-body cladding complete the look.

Extra features include Driving Assistant, which provides steering and lane assist, and Parking Assistant, which uses 12 ultrasonic sensors and four surround-view cameras to identify available parking areas and slot the crossover neatly into place. Saying “hey Mini” brings up the virtual dog Spike to do your bidding.

“We are thrilled to introduce the first of its kind, an all-electric Mini Aceman in the Philippines,” said Willy Tee Ten, president of the Autohub Group of Companies. “This exceptional car combines Mini’s signature urban adventure spirit with iconic design elements to inspire a new generation of drivers leading the way in fashion, technology, and culture.

“We are confident this new all-electric Mini Aceman will provide a thrilling city-driving experience.”
