We weren’t sure what to make of the six-wheeler Lexus LS Concept when we saw the preview. We’re old enough to remember the conservative LS sedans of decades past. Who could have predicted the model would morph into a six-wheeled van that looks straight out of a science-fiction movie?
You see, ‘LS’ used to stand for Luxury Sedan. But Lexus chief branding officer Simon Humphries says it now means Luxury Space. “Lexus has always been about more than just four wheels. We have never shied away from a challenge to discover new products new services new experiences. And now to redefine our flagship,” he added.

With the new Century brand now the top luxury marque in Toyota, Lexus has been given free rein to be a bit more, well, crazy. Those six wheels will 99.99% never make it to production, but other than that, the LS Concept is a stunner. It’s more sculpture than concept van, a shining, shimmering example of splendid luxury.

The Sport Concept will either be the next LC or the RC, although that rear buttress does remind us of the LFA. The Sport Concept may look exaggerated with its low profile and massive wheels, but it does look quite production-ready.


Last but not least is the Lexus Coupe Concept (although technically it has four doors). Low and lean with a svelte design, this concept will hopefully join the distinguished group composed of Lexus' stylish coupes like the LC and the SC.
No new models were shown at the Lexus booth, just exciting concepts. But the premium Japanese brand has shown that it’s willing to take more risks now. All it has to do is follow through.
