Do you remember the Toyota X-Van Gear concept? It was displayed at the Japan Mobility Show back in 2023 and was poised to be Toyota’s avant-garde vision of a futuristic minivan for camping and other outdoor activities.
From the patent sketches and photos circulating online, the concept’s overall impression shifts between the Land Cruiser, Sienna, and even the HiAce from some angles. All while sitting at a shorter length than the Fortuner.

Since 2023, we haven’t heard much about it; however, a report from Motor-Fan.jp revealed that we may see a production unit by October this year—perhaps, just in time for JMS 2025.

According to the report, the X-Van Gear, or the Cross Van, will retain its boxy shape, looking almost like the concept model. If it will keep the same stature, we could be looking at a minivan that measures in at 4,695mm long, 1,820mm wide, 1,855mm tall, with a 2,850mm wheelbase. As mentioned, that would make it about 100mm shorter than a Fortuner, but 20mm taller.
Back in Toyota’s home market of Japan, it will also likely share a platform with the Noah and Voxy minivans. That would explain its smaller form factor, and its probable six-, seven-, and eight-seater configurations.

Under the hood, the Cross Van could pack the Noah’s 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine or its electrified 1.8-liter four-cylinder setup. With the Cross Van’s overland looks and intention, Toyota could also add an AWD system.
The report also mentions that Toyota could push back its release as far as May 2026. It would make for a sentimental debut if it were brought out at JMS this year, but either way, it looks like a new people-carrier from Toyota is on its way.
