Like the vast majority of us, carmakers are now looking forward to bouncing back in 2021. Kia Philippines, for example, is remaining optimistic as it aims to post triple-digit growth and double its market share this year.
In a recent briefing, the company shared that in addition to its new ‘My Year, My Kia’ campaign, part of its game plan for 2021 is to bolster its after-sales services. It promises better parts availability and faster delivery, and will also be rolling out its new remote diagnostics services for Kia vehicles this year.
New Kia cars for PH market
The most notable announcement from Kia, however, is its planned car launches in 2021. The Korean brand is expected to launch at least two vehicles in the country this year, “with a chance of two more” on top of that. Unfortunately for us excited gearheads, no further details were disclosed. Kia Philippines president Manny Aligada only mentioned that these two “won’t be volume drivers,” but are significant and sought-after models in the local Kia lineup.
Of course, we have some guesses. There are two models currently available on our market that received major overhauls in 2020, and these two could very well on their way here: the Sorento and the Carnival.
Why these two? Well, considering the popularity of midsize SUVs and vans or minivans in our market, it would make sense to launch the aforementioned models here. Besides, both are sought-after vehicles, but neither can be considered sales drivers, so they fit the bill.
As for the other two models mentioned by Aligada, frankly, they could be anything. Is the new Kia Sonet entering the market? Or perhaps Kia is bringing back the Optima? Or is the next-generation Soul finally making its way here?
Your guess is as good as ours, but we’d like to hear your take on this. The comments section is open, guys.
