A report from Reuters shared that Chinese automaker Chery will aim to synergize the quality of Toyota and the innovation of Tesla, in what it calls its ‘Double T’ strategy. After unveiling an all-new Tiggo SUV at Auto China 2026, the brand returned to its headquarters in Wuhu to announce that 13 additional models are on the way.
In the background of all this is a floating European expansion plan that may see Chery debut in more markets and ideally grow its manufacturing operations. Ultimately, the Double T framework should ensure that the company, its sub-brands, and its products remain interesting to new customers while keeping current owners satisfied.

Chairman Yin Tongyue further explained: “That means producing cars with both the quality to win over customers for the long term, and the advanced technology to attract younger buyers.” The Chery-operated Omoda and Jaecoo brands have recently breached the British market, spearheaded by the trendy Jaecoo 7 crossover.

Chery likening itself to Toyota and Tesla is definitely a bold statement, but the brand had some strong momentum coming into 2026. The report also states that Chery sold 2.8 million units in 2025, marking an 8% year-on-year increase.
With 13 more vehicles in the pipeline, as well as a new manufacturing plant in South Africa, Chery may already have the assets to deliver on quantity. In the question of quality, we’ll need to wait and see how the Double T strategy affects its planning and global operations.
