After exciting rounds in Cebu and Davao, the Philippine leg of the long-running Subaru Palm Challenge came to a close last Saturday, September 27, at Bonifacio High Street in Bonifacio Global City. With this last round, Motor Image Pilipinas, the authorized distributor of Subaru vehicles in the country, has now filled the 10-person lineup it will send to Singapore for the MediaCorp Subaru Challenge Asian Face-Off.
For the Manila contest, 227 challengers signed up to stand and hold on to Subaru vehicles as long as they could. Returning faces and hands were seen this year, including last year's big winner, Alex Neblasca, who posted a time of 13 hours, 4 minutes and 46 seconds in 2013. This year, Neblasca beat his own time by holding on for 13 hours, 39 minutes and 25 seconds. That heroic time also made this tough guy this year's last man standing.
Here is the complete list of winners for the Manila round (in order of endurance):
* Alex Neblasca
* Jhan Furiscal Jr.
* Carlo Talahib
* Filmark Bernante
* Joram Angeles
* Johnny Anticamara
* Oshwald John Carbonell
* Francisco Gomez
These eight survivors will join the sole winners from Cebu and Davao, and they will all fly to Singapore in November for the regional challenge. There, at the MediaCorp Subaru Challenge Asian Face-Off, the Philippine representatives will compete with contestants from Singapore, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
If the last man standing in the Asian Face-Off will come from the Philippine contingent, the winner will come home to a brand-new Subaru XV 2.0i worth P1,298,000.
Let's wish our countrymen good luck.
