After selling 3,295,013 vehicles in 2025, Suzuki has overtaken Nissan to become the third-biggest Japanese carmaker. That figure also marks a 1.4% year-on-year increase for Suzuki, while Nissan absorbed a -4.4% decrease with 3,202,137 units sold.
According to Reuters, it has been about a decade since Suzuki last outsold Nissan during a calendar year. This shift comes as Nissan has been implementing its financial recovery plan, which has seen the consolidation of production lines and the closures of several manufacturing plants. Overall, Nissan aims to cut its global production output by a million units by the time it returns to profitability.

Both brands still trail Toyota, as it just recorded 10,536,807 cars sold in 2025—including sales from Lexus. That not only makes Toyota the top-selling carmaker in Japan, but also in the world for 2025.
