“The Public Information Office of Pasig City announced via Facebook that motorists passing through Ortigas Avenue Extension should expect worse traffic congestion in the area starting August 23, 2019.
“According to the social media post, the Department of Public Works and Highways will be rehabilitating the drainage system in the area, as well as the curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. The local city government is anticipating increased congestion from 10pm to 5am daily, and is advising motorists to take alternate routes during these hours. Although the affected time period is outside of peak hours, you can still expect the project to have significant effects on traffic flow because construction is expected to be completed only by December 8, 2019.”
“According to a report from Manila Bulletin, Marikina City mayor Marcelino Teodoro has announced that his local government unit is now implementing the ‘No Garage, No Building Permit’ Ordinance of 2019.
“Section 3 of the ordinance reads: ‘Anyone who intends to construct a structure shall be required to show proof like the presentation of a building plan or blueprint attesting to the availability of a permanent parking space or facility on his/her proposed construction as a requirement for the issuance of a building permit.’”

“The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the NLEX Corporation have finally opened the newly constructed Plaridel Bypass Balagtas northbound entry of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). This, according to the DPWH, will make traffic in the area and its surrounding municipalities less congested.”
“Remember the elevated walkway project that was raised in the Senate just a week ago? It seems Senate majority leader Juan Miguel Zubiri is pretty damn serious about pushing through with it.
“In a recent privilege speech by the Senator, he reiterated the importance of mobilizing people in the city through means other than public transport. Zubiri cited the ‘inclusive mobility’ framework—a project he initially put forward in 2016—in which the proposal for elevated walkways along EDSA first came to light. The project never came to be, so the Senator is now exerting renewed efforts to bring the idea to life.
“‘In solving our traffic problems, we should not only focus on vehicular traffic, but we should also consider commuter experience and other means of moving our people around our cities. Inclusive mobility is such that would increase productivity and support acceleration of economic growth,’ Zubiri said.”
Nebrija shoots down the idea of additional bus lane along EDSA, cites two specific conditions that can make it work
“The notorious Metro Manila thoroughfare has been the subject of discussions and debates in the past few weeks, with a number of proposals from the commuting public making the rounds on social media. Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) special operations commander Bong Nebrija, however, believes that increasing the number of bus lanes on EDSA will only lead to more problems, since he expects that buses will still not stay within the assigned lanes.
“The traffic chief said he is still open to the possibility of an additional bus lane, on two conditions: First, if all bus drivers will undergo a professional re-examination, and second, if heftier fines will be imposed on commuters who board or alight from public utility vehicles outside of designated loading and unloading areas.”
