After a long wait, Mazda Philippines has now launched the all-new BT-50 in our market. It lands in a segment chock-full of updated nameplates like the Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, and Nissan Navara. Is it finally ready to compete in the local truck wars?

On paper, it very much is. The pickup shares the same powertrain as the D-Max, that being a 3.0-liter 4JJ3 turbodiesel that churns out 187hp and 450Nm of torque. If our initial review of the D-Max is anything to go by, then the BT-50 won’t disappoint in this department.

It packs a lot of new features, too, including a touchscreen display that comes standard with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, and a smart keyless entry system. Top-spec variants get added niceties like adaptive cruise control, a remote engine start function, a rear-diff lock, and various active safety features.

Further adding to the BT-50’s strong case is its competitive pricing. The base 4x2 6MT variant is priced at P1,390,000, the mid-range 4x2 6AT at P1,430,000, and the top-of-the-line 4x4 6AT at P1,790,000

If you want to learn more about the all-new BT-50, you can check out our full video above.
