Mazda Philippines officially revamped its lineup to start the year by bringing in the refreshed CX-9. It brings with it the same engine (more on this later) and a similar design all wrapped in a package that’s now more refined and boasts more tech than ever.
If you want to learn more about the updated midsize SUV, here’s everything you need to know about the 2022 Mazda CX-9.
Variants and prices
As mentioned in a previous story, the biggest change to the CX-9 roster is the addition of the new Black Edition trim. This new variant now sits right smack in the middle of the range, stickering for P300,000 more than the base Touring variant, and P200,000 less than the top dog AWD Exclusive. Check out the full price list below.
2022 Mazda CX-9
- Mazda CX-9 2.5L Turbo Touring – P2,490,000
- Mazda CX-9 2.5L Turbo Black Edition – P2,790,000
- Mazda CX-9 2.5L Turbo AWD Exclusive – P2,990,000
Exterior
Pictured above is the CX-9 AWD Exclusive sporting its slightly redesigned grille with the new horizontal slats, sitting on its shiny new wheels. Other than those, you’ll find no further design tweaks to the vehicle.
The CX-9 Black Edition, meanwhile, gets a clean white finish accentuated by black side mirrors and wheels. The grille has been blacked out as well, but this variant retains the vehicle’s overall shape and design.
Interior
Inside, the CX-9 Black Edition is fitted with the snazzy red leather seats you see here. Matching contrast stitching can be found around the cabin in this variant. As for the AWD Exclusive, it gets Nappa leather seats with an Oriental Brown finish. These seats now also have quilted bolsters with white accents on the edges.
The rest of the interior is left untouched. The top-spec CX-9 still has the premium wood accents on the center console and the door panels.

Engine and specs
As mentioned earlier, the new CX-9 is still powered by a familiar 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 228hp and 420Nm of torque. This is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels, save of course for the AWD variant.
There are no major mechanical changes here, but the updated lineup does benefit from Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC+) technology. This change promises improved handling and control on winding roads or during varied acceleration and braking.
Extra features
Apart from the new GVC+, Mazda has also equipped the new CX-9 with a nifty 9.2-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. This, along with the new wireless charger, comes as standard across the range.
The Black Edition variant also packs features available in the AWD Exclusive including blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, adaptive LED headlamps, and ventilated front seats. The two higher trim levels also now sport 360-degree cameras and paddle shifters.
The top-of-the-line variant also gets exclusive updates, namely the third-row walk-in switch, adaptive cruise control, smart city brake, auto brake hold, and driver-attention alert.
