After its preview at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show, the 2027 GAC E8 HEV is finally here. Featuring a seven-seater layout, a hybrid powertrain, and various niceties, the E8 is one to look out for if you’re in the market for a premium multipurpose vehicle.

Launched alongside the all-new GN6 and the GN8 PHEV, the E8 is positioned as the middle child and was designed for those who want something more plush than the standard MPV. It won’t be as luxurious as the GN8, but it still has comfort features that you can look forward to.

The E8’s styling has a futuristic look, with thin LED lights and a geometric front grille. Moving to the rear, it carries the same design elements with a slim, smoke-finished LED light bar.

As for dimensions, the E8 measures 4,920mm long, 1,928mm wide, and 1,760mm tall, with a 2,930mm wheelbase. It sits on either 17- or 18-inch wheels with a low ground clearance for easier ingress and egress—especially for children and senior citizens. It also comes in two exterior color options: Crystal White and Elegant Black

Upon opening the sliding door (manual on the GL and power-assisted on the GX), you’ll notice captain seats in the second row. The GL variant offers excellent second-row reclinability, but the GX adds massage seats with ventilation, power legrests, and one-touch zero gravity functions.

For infotainment, the dashboard gets a 14.6-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The front row also receives a wireless phone charger, while a total of seven USB ports are available throughout the cabin.

The third row has a 40:60 split and can fold flat into the floor for maximum cargo capacity. It also has Tea Break Mode, which allows you to flip the third-row seats facing backwards so that you have a cushioned bench to sit on with the tailgate open. Speaking of the tailgate, the GX gets power assistance while the GL retains manual opening.

While the GX has advantages over the GL in terms of comfort, both are similar when it comes to safety. Standard across the model range are dual-front, dual-side, and side-curtain airbags, as well as a 360-degree panoramic parking camera.

As for driver assistance, the GX takes the cake with adaptive and integrated cruise control, traffic-jam assist, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, high-beam assist, lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure warning.

The E8 HEV offers a premium experience at under P2 million. If you want a simpler seven-seater MPV while retaining the captain seats and third-row Tea Break Mode, check out everything you need to know on the GN6 here. What do you think about the E8 HEV? Is the GX variant the obvious choice, or is there still a large market for the GL? Let us know in the comments.
