Electrified vehicles are hot now, and Geely wants a piece of that pie. After its EX5 BEV and EM-I PHEV models, the automaker plans to add its new subcompact EX2 electric hatchback. For this comparo, we’ll be pitting the new small BEV Geely against BYD’s extremely popular Seagull. Does the new EX2 have what it takes to challenge the crowd favorite? Let’s find out.
The EX2 measures 4,135mm long, 1,805mm wide, and 1,580mm tall, this makes it 355mm longer, 90mm wider, and identical in height to the Seagull. The small Geely rides on a 2,650mm wheelbase, which makes it 150mm greater between the axles than its BYD rival. The EX2 has a decent 160mm ground clearance, which is 40mm more than the Seagull. When it comes to cargo volume, the Geely has the advantage. The EX2’s rear cargo area is 375 liters, making it 145 liters larger than the Seagull. That’s not all, the Geely has an additional 70 liters of storage up front. The EX2 rolls on 25.7-inch-diameter 205/60 R16 tires, this is 2.1 inches taller than the Seagull’s 175/55 R16 rollers.

Here’s a bonus comparison: The EX2 is 22mm longer, 8mm wider, and 78mm taller than the MG 3 Hybrid+. The Geely hatchback’s wheelbase is 80mm longer than the MG. When you look at the ground clearance, the BEV EX2 has a 43mm advantage over the hybrid 3.

Review: 2025 BYD Seagull
The EX2 is Geely’s new subcompact BEV. It is rear-wheel drive, something you rarely see on a vehicle in this segment. At first glance, I thought it looked a bit like a junior-sized car version of the Smart #1 CUV. Powering the EX2 is a rear-mounted motor that puts out 114hp and 150Nm of torque. The Seagull is BYD’s electric city car; it has a more conventional front motor and front-drive setup. While small cars tend to take the cute route, the Seagull has an aggressive, angular design. Unlike its Geely rival, there is no frunk under the BYD’s short hood. The small BYD is equipped with a front-mounted electric motor that produces 74hp and 135Nm of torque.

As of this writing, Geely still hasn’t announced official local pricing for its new small BEV, but we do know that its pricing in China overlaps with the Seagull. The BYD’s BEV city car currently stickers for P938,000. For those curious, the MG3 Hybrid+ in our bonus comparison carries a P1,088,888 price tag.
What do you think of Geely’s new EX2 hatchback? Would you choose this over the popular Seagull? Let us know in the comments.
