The difference in price between the base-level and mid-spec 2023 Honda HR-V is pretty significant. To be exact, the latter is P399,000 more expensive—but it does have one major advantage over its more affordable sibling in the range.
That advantage is an extra kick courtesy of a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. It does 175hp and 240Nm of torque, which is pretty substantial given the vehicle’s size.
But is that extra cost worth it during actual daily driving? Of course, the big power increase makes the little runabout much zippier to drive. But an extra P399,000—which, by the way, makes the vehicle’s price tag at par with considerably larger offerings—is definitely nothing to scoff at.

Anton Andres recently got behind the turbocharged HR-V’s wheel to find out. According to him, whether you should shell out extra for the turbocharger depends largely on your position as a car buyer.
“If you’re coming from a Jazz, are able to save up a lot more, and you want something that goes faster than a Jazz or something that goes faster than a small hatchback, the HR-V is definitely something you should consider—especially if you don’t need the added bulk of a midsize SUV.”
Based on the overall packaging and real-world performance, Anton saw it fit to score the crossover 8/10 in his review. Want to learn more about the Honda HR-V V Turbo Honda Sensing? Just press play on the video embedded above.
