A few weeks ago, we reported about a design patent showing an unnamed small Ford SUV which is believed to be the next-gen EcoSport. The front-end styling is pretty much identical to the leaked photo of a prototype or design mockup that was going around the internet in late 2020. Based on the information we have, I decided to render how I think the production version of the new small Ford SUV would look like.
At first glance, you will notice the new small SUV features Ford’s new ‘Progressive Energy in Strength’ design language that can also be seen on the new Territory. Up front, it features the American automaker’s octagonal grille flanked by signature LED lighting. The headlights and fog lights are located on lower-mounted vertical clusters. A trapezoidal intake is located at the bottom of the bumper. Moving to the side, it has prominent wheel arches and sculpted lower panels. The pronounced creased rear haunches give it a muscular appearance.

We have no reference for the rear, so I had to do a bit of guesswork. The back was inspired by both the current Territory and Escape. For the greenhouse, it appears to have blacked-out A-pillars like the ones on the Explorer, while the rearmost pillar has a line or crease at the top which forms the perfect border for an optional contrasting roof color. The perimeter matt black cladding and faux skid plates on both ends complete the SUV look. I based the general dimensions on the current Puma but with a taller roof and slightly higher ground clearance.
What platform could Ford use for a next-gen EcoSport? My guess, the American automaker’s current Global B platform that underpins the subcompact Puma crossover, Transit Courier and Tourneo Courier vans. The good news is this architecture can be used by both ICE and BEV models. An affordable hybrid or electric EcoSport sounds interesting.
As a refresher, Ford Brazil and Ford India were vital in the development of the Blue Oval’s previous baby SUV. Sadly, Ford ended production in Brazil in 2021 and then in India the following year. Recently, there have been rumors that Ford might begin operations again in India. Ford’s plant in Brazil on the other hand is now owned by BYD. Could Ford China become Ford India’s new small SUV partner? Again, all these are rumors and speculations so let’s wait and see.
As of this writing, Ford’s lowest-priced SUV in the country is the P1.335 million Territory Titanium. A more affordable subcompact option is always welcome.
