The Honda Civic has come a long way since the hugely popular ’90s-era EG and EK models.

The current FE generation is more mature and upmarket than its boy-racer predecessors; it has also grown significantly over the earlier iterations. This got us thinking, how big is the 2025 Civic compared to the 1994 fifth-gen Accord? For this size comparo, we’ll be using a 2025 Civic RS e:HEV and a 1994 Accord 2.0 EXi.

The new Civic measures 4,681mm long, 1,802mm wide, and 1,415mm tall, making it 6mm longer, 21mm wider, and 15mm taller than the 1994 Accord. The modern C-segment Honda rides on a 2,735mm wheelbase, which makes it 20mm greater between the axles than the mid-’90s Honda midsizer. The new Civic rolls on 25.4-inch-diameter 235/40R18 rubber that are 1.2 inches larger than the fifth-gen Accord’s 24.2-inch-diameter 195/60R15 tires.

We were surprised that the FE Civic wasn’t just close in size to the 1994 Accord, but actually a bit bigger in all directions. Based on observation, the 11th-gen Civic’s taller hood, higher beltline, and larger diameter tires give it the illusion that it’s smaller than it actually is.

Here's a little overview of the two featured Honda sedans. The eleventh-generation Civic made its global debut in April 2021, it landed on our shores seven months later. Honda’s compact car was given a refresh last year for the 2025 model year.

The updated Civic sedan range is available with two gasoline engine options: a 1.5-liter turbocharged unit with 176hp, and a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine paired with an electric motor with a total system output of 181hp. Like most cars in its segment, it gets MacPherson strut suspension up front and an independent multilink setup at the rear.

The fifth-gen Accord made its global debut in April 1993, and rolled out of Honda’s Santa Rosa, Laguna plant in 1994. It was initially available with a non-VTEC 2.0-liter mill that produced around 140hp, then the refreshed 1996 model sported a more powerful 2.2-liter VTEC unit that put out 150hp. The fifth-gen Accord was Honda’s first midsize offering in the Philippine market. The ’90s midsize Honda featured a sophisticated four-wheel double-wishbone suspension system.

As of this writing, the 2025 Honda Civic is the largest Honda sedan offered in the local market. However, Honda Cars Philippines has since mentioned that it is ‘open’ to the idea of bringing back the Accord in the country.

But seeing how much the C-segment Honda sedan has grown, would you consider it to be a midsize sedan alternative? Let us know in the comments.
