You probably know DAMD for its Suzuki Jimny conversions, but it’s rocking up at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon with some vans, too...one of which has been defaced. In quite a good way.
The tuning company is showcasing what it calls the DAMD Deface Concept, based on the Toyota Hiace. Some things usually tend to get lost in (Google) translation when the Japanese try to be extra-creative with English names, but in this case, we believe it’s pun very much intended because the inspiration for the concept is the Land Rover Defender.

The modifications appear to be purely cosmetic, and no other details have been revealed about the concept other than this being a “rough van and wagon that you can have fun with” along with “all your friends, lovers, and family.” We’ll see just how rough it is soon enough, although we don’t expect it to get to the level of Cast Racing’s Hiace rally van.
The two other van concepts are based on the Daihatsu Atrai, also known as the Hijet. The DAMD Atrai Fuzz Wagon takes the retro look one step further by sporting a weather-beaten exterior that’s done up in wood-inspired decals. The DAMD Atrai Fuzz Deckvan, meanwhile, has a cleaner finish, but the rear bodywork has been lopped off to turn the kei van into a pickup.
The 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon will be held from January 12 to 14 at the Makuhari Messe. If you’ll be in Tokyo around that time, the annual event is worth a visit—aside from concepts, there’ll be lots of aftermarket items and official merch. We hope you still have some 13th month pay and Christmas bonus left...
