The all-new Mazda CX-5 recently launched in the Philippines to the tune of P2.495 million. Notably, that price is quite competitive given Mazda’s position in the market and the costs of other premium hybrid compact crossovers with AWD systems.

However, an even more economical variant is scheduled to enter the local market sometime next year. This was shared during the CX-5’s launch event, where Mazda Philippines president Steven Tan mentioned that a front-wheel drive configuration is in the pipeline.

There is no exact date on when it will arrive, nor are there any official specifications. However, we can expect the same 2.5-liter e-Skyactiv-G powertrain, with all of its 179hp and 242Nm of torque. And aside from the front-wheel drivetrain, the new variant may differentiate itself with fewer features and comforts.

Likely losses could include the head-up display and select functions from the Mazda i-Activsense advanced driver-assistance suite. However, it should still look similar and retain the new CX-5’s larger overall frame.

While we wait for it to arrive, those currently interested in picking up a brand-new CX-5 can configure a zero-interest payment plan with EastWest Bank, Security Bank, and BDO. Available colors include Soul Red Crystal, Rhodium White, Machine Gray, Jet Black, Aero Gray, and a special Navy Blue Mica. Hopefully, that final color also makes its way to the upcoming CX-5.
