t’s no secret that Mazda and Changan have been working together for electrified vehicles. The fruit of that is the EZ-6, known in some markets as the 6e. But now, there’s a follow up to that in the form of the EZ-60.

Okay, so we mentioned the Mazda EZ-60 in passing before, but we have more details now. We also know what the interior looks like now, along with powertrain specifications. But what caught our attention was the availability of a plug-in hybrid powertrain. That should quell any range anxiety issues, right?

The Mazda EZ-60, to be called the CX-6e in select markets, was previewed as the Arata concept shown in Beijing last year. It’s based on the Changan Deepal S07, but it gets design touches that are uniquely Mazda.

For instance, there’s the sharp looking front end that’s reminiscent of Mazda’s CX models. The glowing grille is flanked by a pair of slim headlights and looks nothing like its Deepal counterpart. The side profile has been reshaped to follow the brand’s rakish designs, while the rear is giving us CX-90 vibes. Interestingly, the side mirrors are replaced by a pair of cameras.

The Chinese market seems to love its huge screens, so the EZ-60 gets a massive 26.5-inch unit that reaches the passenger side. And instead of a digital instrument cluster, it comes with a driver’s head-up display for speed, navigation, and other matters related to driving. There is also a screen on each of the front doors that serve as displays for the side-view cameras. Oh, and one can get a 23-speaker sound system in it.

Powering the PHEV version of this crossover is a 1.5-liter engine mated to a large 31.7kWh battery and powerful electric motor. It’s rear-wheel drive only, and makes over 250hp. Mazda claims an electric-only range of up to 160km and a total range of over 1,000km.

But for those who prefer pure electric power, it carries a sizable 80kWh battery and can get up to 600km on a full charge. Horsepower figures have yet to be disclosed.
