The Toyota Alphard practically has the luxury van market cornered, but that isn’t stopping a whole host of automakers from at least trying to build something that matches it. Mercedes-Benz was one of the first with the V-Class from nearly a decade ago, serving as the lone European alternative.
The current-generation Mercedes-Benz V-Class has been around for a good decade now, making its world premiere way back in 2014. An all-new generation is due soon, but the present model isn’t retiring quietly.

Case in point, the V-Class underwent yet another update two years ago, and that version is finally in the Philippines. Meet the V220d Elegance, and it gets a refreshed look inside and out, along with more luxury trappings in the cabin.
From the outside, there’s a new grille and bumper design that echoes that of the electric EQ models. It then gets a new set of wheels, as well as a few tweaks to the rear. Speaking of the rear, we’re glad that the split tailgate is still around.

Inside, it finally gets upgraded captain’s chairs, a must if wants to get within an earshot of the ever popular Alphard. Expect power-operated perches in the second row, as well as a wide third-row that’s good for three more occupants.
The V220d is powered by a 2.1-liter diesel engine. It’s a twin-turbocharged unit that’s good for 161hp and 380Nm, all of which are sent to the front wheels. It then shifts with a nine-speed automatic transmission dubbed the 9G-Tronic.
As for the price, this decked-out version of the Mercedes-Benz V-Class can be yours for P5,290,000.
