New Toyota IMV diesel engines

It's safe to say that the most-awaited vehicle models right now in the Philippine market are the Toyota IMV (Innovative International Multipurpose Vehicle) trio of the Hilux, the Fortuner and the Innova. We can definitively tell you that the new Hilux will be introduced by Toyota Motor Philippines this year, most likely in August. That launch will be followed by the arrival of the new Fortuner and the new Innova, but we don't have the timetable for these two yet (our guess is next year).

Now, readers have been asking us about the specifications of these new Toyota commercial vehicles. Here's the first serving of technical information, courtesy of a source from Toyota.

The IMV trio will have new GD-series diesel engines. They will have lower displacements but better horsepower and torque ratings.

The current 3.0-liter turbodiesel (161hp, 343Nm) will be replaced by a 2.8-liter diesel unit (174hp, 450Nm). Also, the current 2.5-liter diesel engine (142hp, 343Nm) will be retired by a 2.4-liter diesel mill (148hp, 400Nm). Our source added that the bigger-displacement engine will power the 4x4 variants, while the lower-displacement powerplant will service the 4x2 variants.

What do you think of these new GD diesel engines?
