Amid global downsizing and factory closures, Nissan has remained committed to developing and debuting new vehicles—sort of. The Japanese brand’s latest offering comes in the form of the all-new Nissan Gravite, a seven-seater MPV based on the Renault Triber.

It will be primarily rebadged and sold in India as an affordable people mover, priced at just INR565,000 or a bit over P360,000. The asking price will be higher if it does end up on our shores, and as to the likelihood of that happening, never say never—its platform-mate, the Magnite, has long been rumored to arrive here. And the Toyota Urban Cruiser bound for the local market will be sourced from India.

In any case, Nissan’s new MPV is powered by a 1.0-liter gasoline engine, which makes 71hp at 6,250rpm and 96Nm of torque at 3,400-3,600rpm. It’s then mated to either a traditional five-speed manual or the brand’s five-speed EZ-shift automated manual transmission.

The Gravite’s exact dimensions have yet to be disclosed, but Nissan has confirmed that the third-row seats are removable, expanding cargo capacity to 625 liters. Nissan has also outfitted the interior with a 7.9-inch infotainment display, a wireless phone charger, and physical climate controls.

On the outside, parking sensors have been added to the front and rear ends. A piano-black grille sits atop a heavy-looking bumper with orange accents, while the side skirts were then given a two-tone treatment.

While the MPV and the latest-issue Navara are both rebadged vehicles, Nissan’s Aura Nismo RS Concept could sprout a completely original offering for the brand. We’re eager to see what the production version of this concept will look like.

In the meantime, would you want to see the Gravite make its way to the Philippines?
