It’s no secret that Toyota Motor Philippines is about to launch the all-new Ativ HEV soon. In fact, we already have the possible prices. What we don’t know yet, however, are the other specifics of the car.

Fortunately for all of us, the Department of Energy (DOE) has just published some details about the upcoming hybrid sedan. It’s clarified a few things, but it also confused us about what the official nameplate will be. But more on the latter later—let’s talk specs first.

Toyota Vios HEV

According to the DOE website, the Ativ HEV’s gasoline engine will be capable of 90hp and its electric motor, 79hp. No combined outputs or torque figures were shared. It’ll supposedly get an 18.5kWh battery.

A source has also shared more details with us on top of what we got from the DOE. We were told that the range-topping hybrid will have Toyota Safety Sense features available, which includes forward-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and alane-keep assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree-view camera with front and rear parking sensors also come with the HEV package.

In case you missed the previous story, four engine configurations could be available for the new Ativ. That’s a 1.3-liter gasoline mill with either a five-speed manual or a CVT, a 1.5-liter petrol mill paired with a CVT, and a 1.5-liter gasoline hybrid that’s also mated to a CVT.

Now, as for the official naming, we mentioned previously that the Ativ could find itself in the same situation as the Zenix. The latter is still badged ‘Innova Zenix’ but it’ already widely called and known as just ‘Zenix.’ The same could happen to the Vios, as the DOE papers show ‘Vios Ativ’ listed as the model name but it’s being marketed as just the ‘Ativ.’ This is probably because for both models, Toyota still intends to sell the pre-updated, non-hybrid versions since there’s still a high demand for them. If it works, it works, we suppose.

In any case, just keep an eye out for the upcoming launch—we’ll keep you posted once we finally get confirmation regarding the Ativ.
